If you will be replacing your molding, you’ll need to decide how large you want to go. If your ceilings are a bit low, thick crown molding can make the room seem smaller. However, the right kind of decorative crown molding that is narrow will draw the eye upwards and make the room seem larger. It’s best to get a few samples and see which one you like best when you get them up on your walls.

Crown molding will usually come in either white, wood stain or unfinished. You’ll have to decide which look will fit your home best. If you are only replacing one room’s molding, you’ll want to try to match the new molding to the rest of the house as closely as possible. If you can’t find a close match, get unfinished molding so that you can stain it to match.

You’ll need to start by ripping out the old molding, whether you are fixing or replacing. This will require a ladder, a hammer and some gloves. You may also need a chisel to help get behind the molding if the hammer won’t do it. Make sure you are safely on the ladder and start on one end of the room. If you’re completely replacing the molding, it won’t matter if you crack the pieces when you’re taking them off. Otherwise, you’ll want to be very careful on this step.

Most crown molding is installed using simple carpentry nails and it will not be hard to remove. Place your hammer or chisel behind the molding, pulling it away from the wall a little bit and use this to lever the molding off of the wall. Keep an eye out for any nails that come free so that no one will step on them later.

If you’re fixing one piece, you’ll need to take down the entire length of molding for that wall. While it is possible to cut away the broken part, this rarely looks nice once you’re done. Remove the whole strip of molding and measure it twice. Now, get your new strip of molding and make sure that it is sized properly. If necessary, cut it to fit. You’ll need to get some new nails to complete your replacement or your repair.

Get back up on the ladder and start with one end once again. You’ll need to make sure that it is completely level before you start nailing. If necessary, have a friend hold the molding for you so that your hands are free for hammering. After putting in the nails, you’ll be all done!

The better choice is to repair the cabinets. How to do so depends greatly upon the location and extent of the damage done to them. If the damage is light, then it can be very easy to repair and will require minimal quantities of parts to purchase, which means a cheaper fix. Based upon the problem areas of the cabinet, the determination of what is needed in terms of money and time becomes clear. From this, you can figure out if it would be cost effective to fix the cabinets, or if it is required to replace them.

Doors and Hinges:

The easiest area to fix, a problem with the door and hinges on the cabinet cab be fixed by looking at a couple of things. Look at the screws; do any need to be tightened? If that is not sufficient, you may need to replace them with larger or longer screws. If the holes for the screws are too damaged, then you can move them to another part of the door

Drawers:

This is another easy to fix area, even if the problem is a stuck drawer. Moving and repositioning the drawer until both runners are back in place will fix most sliding problems. It may be the case however that damage may be done to the slides or runners. If this should be the case, then they will need to be replaced. Many times however, the necessary fix is to ensuring that all screws are tight and in their right locations.

Frame:

Should something occur to the frame and wood of the cabinet, the question is to what extent is the damage. For minor occurrences of damage, it'll work just to reassemble the pieces with wood glue. As the damage grows in magnitude, so will the methods to repair them. More extensive repairs will require something stronger, such as an epoxy wood kit, or the introduction of a piece of wood the same species as the cabinet.

When you should find that damage has occurred to your cabinets it is key to assess the damage and find out what it will take to repair the damage. It could be fixed with a screw driver, or a small trip to the home improvement store. Do not overestimate what you can do however; there are always jobs that beyond the homeowner and it may be best to contact outside help. It may even be the case that the damage is so extensive as to warrant fully replacing the cabinets. Just check out the situation and come up with a plan.

Check the Stability of the Posts

The first step is to check the post stability for whatever post is supporting the gate as well as the ones that are simply nearby. You should make sure that they are plumb and free of any wobbling. The fence posts may begin to wobble with time if made using untreated wood, or if the post setting has been allowed to become unstable.

Often, all you will have to do to fix your problems with the gate is to repair your posts. Wobbly posts can be secured using splints or stakes, but this is only going to work if the post is still in a suitable condition. You can drive the stakes into the ground on both sides of the post. Choose stakes pre-treated with a preservative in order to prevent any rotting. Secure everything together using bolts that run from the stake to the post and into the other stake.

If the posts are not in good condition any longer, then you are going to need to replace them. This repair is one that takes significantly more work as the posts will have to be disassembled and reassembled to repair or replace the part of the fence that is giving you issues. Remove the problem posts and reinstall new posts, ensuring that you are using good that has been pressure treated or a cedar or redwood variety.

Check the Hinge Quality

If your posts are not wobbling then the problem may be with your hinges. Check your hinges to determine whether or not they are loose, old, bent or simply too light-weight for the gate that you are using. Replacing your hinges is a relatively simple procedure. You may also be able to fix the problem you are facing simply by replacing the screws that attach your posts and your gate together.

Worn hinges can be replaced with larger hinges. Make sure that you use brand new holes to suit the screws. You can make strap hinges stronger by bending their tips around the corners of the posts.

There are a lot of different methods for cleaning a clogged drain, and we'll cover the ones that are most effective. However, since using drain cleaners is not only bad for the environment, but also for your health, we won't be covering that method. It is possible to end up with drain cleaner coming back up into your shower and the health risks from breathing the fumes are injurious to the health of your whole family. There are plenty of other easy ways to clean a clog that don't involve harmful chemicals.

Now, before we get started, you're going to need a few tools. We recommend:

• a screwdriver
• a pair of pliers
• a coat hanger
• a plumber's snake (for serious leaks - they're available at most hardware stores)
• some gloves (if you don't want to get slimy)

First, you're going to have to remove the top part of your shower drain. Most are screwed in, so gently loosen that screw with the appropriate type of screwdriver. You're not going to want to crank on this since you can damage your tub. If it won't budge, try a little WD40 if necessary.

Once this top part is off you should be able to get a better idea of the kind of clog you're dealing with. Most clogs will be in this part of the drain, so you can simply pick the hair out until the area is cleaned up. If you don't see much hair or anything else clogging this area, you're going to have to go a little bit further. Most modern drains have a pattern inside that is made of hard plastic, so you can't exactly go sticking your hand down there. We don't recommend prying this part out since you can permanently damage your tub.

Unwrap that coat hanger and try feeding it gently down the drain. Probe around until you feel like you've hit the clog. You can try to pull it back up towards you or push it down further until it reaches a larger area of the pipe where it can be flushed away. For serious clogs we really recommend a plumber's snake since they are easier to use than a coat hanger. Get rid of the clog and then put the drain back together again and you're set.

If you have frequent clogs there's an easy little recipe that you can use to make safe drain cleaner. Get some baking soda and put it down the drain. Then, grab some white vinegar and pour it in. The chemical reaction will clean out the pipe and keep it clean for you. You can do this once a month as a preventative. After you use the mixture, run some hot water down the drain to flush away any excess power.

First and foremost, assess the concrete wall in your basement. If the damage appears to be leaking, then you should be using plugging cement that is quick hardening, or a concrete epoxy to fill it in. When you mix the cement for the dry patch spots, you should be using one part cement mixed with two parts of sand in order to make a mortar. You should slowly add water in until you have a dough like consistency, stirring well along the way.

Should a new leak spring up in an area close to the repair site, then there may be water that is backing up against the foundation's exterior, and this can be a serious problem. As a result, you are going to have to take more drastic measures with the help of a repairing building contractor as leak repair measures must be taken before this problem becomes any more serious or any more significant.

If you have a hole in your cement, here is what you can do: You can use a cold chisel to make the hole bigger, undercutting edges so that the plug is not going to pop loose. You can mix plugging cement, creating a stopper shape that you can pop right into the hole as if it were a cork. Keep it in place for a few minutes and let it harden.

If you are dealing with cracks in your cement, here is what you can do: You can use a hammer and a chisel in order to cut cracks back to the sound material, beveling the edges. Then moisten the cracks really well. Turn the mortar several times using a trowel, then work the well mixed mortar into the cracks using just the very tip of the trowel. One the mortar is beginning to harden, you can pack the crack completely full. Shave off whatever mortar is extra using a putty knife or a wet trowel and let everything harden.
