Using the right adhesive is an important part of getting the best results in your do it yourself projects, so consult this guide when you aren't sure which adhesive is going to best meet your needs. Keep in mind that this is only a guideline, and always make sure to read the packaging for the adhesive that you choose so that you are following the directions properly.

Acrylic Adhesive - Acrylic adhesive is a two part adhesive that comes with a liquid and a powder, and you only have to mix it as needed. It can be applied using a brush, a paddle or a spatula. Acrylic adhesive can bond wood and metal and it offers a high resistance to water that is not affected by oil. The pot life for acrylic adhesive is between 3 minutes and 20 minutes, and its shelf life is indefinite when it is stored at room temperature. The setting time for this type of adhesive is between 3 minutes and 20 minutes. With a low pressure clamp, the clamp time on average is between 5 minutes and 30 minutes. The best method of clean up is an acetone solvent.

Acryonitrile Adhesive - Acryonitrile Adhesive is a one part adhesive that comes ready to be used. It can be applied using a brush. This adhesive is indicated for bonding textiles, carpet, fabrics, tents, boat sails and other similar materials. The shelf life for Acryonitrile Adhesive is indefinite. This adhesive offers a quick setting time and cleans up with Ketone or acetone.

Aliphatic Adhesive - Aliphatic Adhesive is a one part adhesive that comes ready to be used in a liquid form. It can be applied using a brush, a paddle or a spatula and it is easy to use. This adhesive is indicated for wood, cabinetry and furniture. The shelf life for Aliphatic Adhesive is indefinite. This adhesive offers a 15 minute setting time and cleans up with warm water.

Cellulose Adhesive - Cellulose Adhesive is a one part adhesive that comes ready to be used. It can be applied directly from the tube to the surface. This adhesive is indicated for small repairs, model work, china, glass and wood. The shelf life for Cellulose Adhesive is indefinite. This adhesive offers a 2 hour setting time and cleans up with acetone.

Contact Cement Adhesive - Contact Cement Adhesive is a one part adhesive that comes ready to be used in a liquid form. It can be applied using a brush or a roller. This adhesive is indicated for high pressure laminates and plastics, plywood and hard board. The shelf life for Contact Cement is twelve months when stored properly. This adhesive offers a 20 to 25 minute setting time and cleans up with acetone.
