Sanding disks come in a wide variety of styles, with each offering different applications and features. Different sanding disks offer different adhesive methods to attach the disk to the sanding device, including sticky back disks, hook and loop disks and five-hole disks that fit onto specific sanders. Different sanding disks also offer different abrasives, with some offering fine abrasives and others offering much rougher surfaces.

 

When it comes to choosing the right sanding disks for your project, choosing the right level of abrasiveness really does make a difference. If you are sanding fine metal, you are going to want something with a fine grit or gentle abrasiveness. On the other hand, if you are trying to sand wood down a considerable level, then sanding disks with a higher level of abrasiveness is ideal. If you do not choose the right sanding disks, you may find yourself either with a much bigger project on your hands than intended, or you may find yourself doing damage that you did not expect because your sanding job was too much for the piece at hand.
