- Using a UV sterilizer in a reef tank What is the sterilizer? It is a container, usually in a near tube shape, in which an ultraviolet (UV) fluorescent lamp is contained. The lamp emits light at around 254 nm. The lamp is constructed of quartz glass to prevent the UV being absorbed as it would be if ordinary glass were used. The lamp is in a container of its own to shield it from the water, and then there is an outer container. The space between the containers is very small allowing full penetration of UV light. The water is passed between the outer and inner containers by a pump or power head.

- Greening Our New Home - So Far, So Good...Mostly. So here we are in week #4 in our new home, 1000 miles away from our old home. Back in California, we had our "green-ness" down pat - we knew where the good stores were, we knew how much water we were using, we watched our energy usage and knew what to expect when the utility bills showed up. But now it's a different story as we have to re-learn the different ways we can be green here in Taos, NM. Starting over is both very exciting...and a lot of work at the same time.
How To Pick the Best Compact Fluorescent Light Bulb There's something about compact fluorescent (or CFL) bulbs and the light they put out. Water quality (in which I include water movement) is top of the list in importance when it comes to keeping a saltwater aquarium. Closely following water quality is lighting, as much life on the reef depends on it. The lighting used for a reef aquarium is more intense than on any other type. The reason for this is that we are trying to simulate the sun as far as humanly possible. The lighting used on the reef aquarium is normally more towards the blue end of the colour spectrum as we are trying to produce the lighting colours present at between 10m and 30m in water depth.

Changing a Slide’s Layout Although earlier versions of PowerPoint had many different layouts, they were all mostly the same, but with different types of content placeholders. On the wild reef things are much the same. I know, reef life doesn’t have a lunch hour! What they do have is dawn, day, sunset and night. Life on the reef is controlled by these changes in light intensity. Daylight fish prepare to disappear into their secure holes when sunset arrives. Night life prepares to emerge. At dawn it reverses.

International Internet Marketing for Dive Centers Not so long ago, making websites in full Flash was hype. Nowadays we have come back to our senses and found out that waiting for a Flash website to open is going to take a half day with a bad Internet connection and still at least several minutes with a good one. Here at #1 Internet Marketing we left that train pass us by and we actually never jumped on it. While Flash can do fancy things, it's loading time in general is still much too slow for an average Internet connection. Sometimes though we get confronted with the Question: Our site is in Flash, what now? Our motto is tonever repair anything that isn't broken. If the Flash site has a good position, leave it there! Refresh your business image with a new website. An additional one. Websites are not so expensive anymore, Wordpress blogs can be easily maintained by anybody once it has been set up the right way.
