The Best Fix-Its Under $500

One of the best ways to save money is to utilize easy to implement and cheap repairs and improvements around the house. These improvements will improve the value of the house and fix some of the problems that may be plaguing it. So here is a list of the best fix-its under $500.

The first place to start is with the first place that a guest will see, the front of the house. A fresh coat a weather resistant paint on the front of the house, the trim and the door, and you will increase the value of your home.

Address the porch. This area is tied with the first, in that the porch is a place for first impressions. The best route is to go with some potted plants on the sides of the door, overflowing with flowers. The key is to mix different kinds of plants, tall and short, blooming and non-blooming, and so on.

Once inside the home, the one major thing that someone can do to freshen the look of a room is to paint the room. Do not skip painting the ceiling. When painting, don't forget the furniture. Adding a fresh coat will enhance the over all look of a room.

Put up photos.

After having some photos increased in size, put them into a cheap store frame. This cheap accent accentuates the home and gives more of a modern look and feel to it

Accent lighting, as opposed to one or two room lights, can pick out different features of the room and instantly give additional décor to the room. These accent lights can be purchased as separate modules that plug into additional sockets so that you can direct the light where you want.

This tip is very cheap. In fact, it won't cost any money out of pocket. Make the rooms in your home instantly more spacious by getting rid of a third of the junk in the room. A lot of times that stuff is not being used and it allows you to remove stuff that is only taking space in your home; but it also makes the rooms infinitely more spacious.

Make sure the front yard and any other foliage is trimmed and well groomed. Going back to first impressions, the front yards speaks more about a household then what one gives credit for.

Another modification to the front yard is to creates central points throughout the yard. It can be a bird bath or feeder, a lake, or other such option.

The mind is responsible for a lot of our senses and interpreting what we see. We can trick our brain knowing this. Simple tricks can make something look increasingly larger. For example, a curved foot path will increase the apparent size of a yard.

This is a useful trick for those who are creative and who like to recycle; repurpose older stuff as newer décor. By applying some paint, a little statue or block, or what have you can be repurposed into a variety of things.
