Tool Box Essentials pt 1

hammerIt does not matter where you are living, or whether you are renting or owning your home. If you have four walls as well as a roof, then you are eventually going to have something that requires repairing, installing or updating. Having the right tools makes all the difference in this endeavor. Here are the tool box essentials that you absolutely should not be without.

Hammer - This is the number one type of hand tool that you need to have. You can use a hammer for a myriad of different purposes including from hanging a picture to installing some decorative molding. One great option that you should make sure to have on hand is the claw hammer, which is the proper name that is used for the standard type of hammer that has a claw end on the back. Claw hammers use the claw side to pull nails, and the peen side to hammer the nails in. The choice is generally all yours when it comes to choosing a hammer, but the flat peen and claw tip hammer is generally a good way to go.

Tape Measure - You really cannot put a price on the concept of accuracy, especially any time home improvement is involved. If you make an incorrect estimate, you can end up costing yourself a lot of time and money. You can save on time and money when you simply keep a tape measure handy in your toolbox in order to measure a variety of different things including window treatments, furniture, garage shelving, carpentry and cabinetry. All types of tape measures are going to follow the same basic type of design but there are little details that are unique from one to the next and that can really make all the difference. For example, wider tape measure rules are going to give you a greater level of control over the tape measure when it is extended, because wider tape measures tend to flop around a lot less. Another handy type of variation is to choose a tape measure with a magnetic tip, allowing the end to be held firmly to steel and iron surfaces while you are measuring for hands free measuring.

Level - A level will help you determine whether or not a hung picture is straight and will ensure that bonded pieces are connected level as well. There are plenty of different types of levels including high-tech types of laser levels and torpedo levels which are standard and use air bubbles in liquid vials to give a visible level of proof that a surface is level. It does not matter what type of level you choose to use - The importance is that you make good use of a level when you need it the most. Keep either type in your tool box, as it will be sure to come in handy in the future.
