10 Ideas for DIY Home Improvement

ceilingfanThere are a lot of different DIY home improvement projects that you can take advantage of in order to change up the look and feel of your home quickly, easily and effectively. Why pay an arm and a leg for contractors and professionals when you can make grand changes to your home with these simple DIY home improvement projects?

Idea #1 for DIY Home Improvement - Install your own handmade shelves rather than purchasing cookie utter style shelves as customized shelves can be built by hand or purchased from woodworkers and craft fairs.

Idea #2 for DIY Home Improvement - Replace the vinyl flooring in your home or install brand new floor tiles for easier convenience since convenience is absolutely everything in home improvement.

Idea #3 for DIY Home Improvement - Install carpeting in order to add a new dimension to your home, but make sure that you install it in the rooms that will best benefit from it such as the living spaces that have higher traffic.

Idea #4 for DIY Home Improvement - Install ceiling fans in order to increase the air flow in your home while adding beauty to each of the rooms where a ceiling fan is installed.

Idea #5 for DIY Home Improvement - Replace the wallpaper in your home that needs to be touched up or completely repaired, and opt for paint in its place or choose a higher quality wallpaper.

Idea #6 for DIY Home Improvement - Consider adding an outside addition such as a deck or a patio to your home, especially if you enjoy entertaining outdoors or spending evenings watching the stars.

Idea #7 for DIY Home Improvement - Painting your home, either on the inside or on the outside, is a really simple and popular way that you can improve the overall appearance of your space. Make sure that you are always painting in a well ventilated area and following the manufacturer directions.

Idea #8 for DIY Home Improvement - Install a dusk-to-dawn type of lighting situation outside of your home. This is a type of lighting that turns on automatically when movement occurs outside of your home, and it is especially ideal for living in larger areas or out in the country.

Idea #9 for DIY Home Improvement - You may want to consider replacing your windows to keep your home protected from the climate and the elements. Windows can keep your home warm or keep the hot air out during the summer and they can make your home more energy efficient as well, which will mean that replacing your windows may be a good idea.

Idea #10 for DIY Home Improvement - Install wall paneling rather than painting or installing wallpaper, as it is sold in easy-to-install sheets, is already cut for you, and is ready to be installed.

Idea # 4 above about using ceiling fans to circulate the air is a very good idea. In fact you can save up to 40% on your cooling bills in the summer and up to 10% on your heating bills in the winter just by correctly using a ceiling fan. If you are planning to install a ceiling fan make sure you secure it properly, position it 7 to 8 feet from the floor for maximum efficiency, and use the switch on the housing to push air down in summer for a breeze and reverse rotation to suck the cool air up and circulate the warm air down in the winter. You will be amazed at how much you will save on your heating and cooling bills. Oh, and by the way. Some Energy Star rated ceiling fans like the Hunter Ceiling fans actually use less electricity than it takes to light a 100 watt light bulb. If you would like to learn more about ceiling fans just visit http://www.HunterCeilingFanStore.com/Ceiling-Fan-Videos.html Hope this helps you stay comfortable, and save some money too.
