Budget Decoration Tips: Use What You Have

wallpaperOne of the most popular budget decoration tips is to use paint over other materials, because paint is cheaper and more easily changed. But if you want to be even better to your budget than dipping in to buy several gallons of paint, there are many ways you can use what you already have to make your home look stylish.

Many of the best budget decoration tips involve using leftover items and supplies. If you've recently remodeled or done any sort of decorating project (even a craft project) you probably have some things left over. You can put these to good use when decorating your home and get some brand new décor, sometimes without spending another dime.

Wallpaper

The very nature of wallpapering ensures that you'll have at least a few scraps. You chose the wallpaper, so the patter or colors appealed to you. Why not repurpose a scrap or two as artwork in another room? Beautiful artwork is expensive, and framed art can easily break a decorating budget. But it adds so much beauty to a room, that a room without at least something artsy seems bare. Take a picture frame you already have--it doesn't have to be fancy--and frame the wallpaper. You can use a matte if you wish, and display the wallpaper in any shape that appeals. Choose a room that has colors complimentary to that in the paper, and you've got instant, and practically free, artwork. Use leftover wall paint without or without a glossy sealer to make cheap dollar-store picture frames look more chic.

Other wallpaper decoration tips include using as an accent. Use wallpaper to cover accessories to give them a designer look. You can wallpaper trash cans, book covers, old soup cans to be used as pencil or utensil holders, or use it decoupage things like trays or vases.

Tile

Many tile budget decoration tips are things anyone can do. You can put whole or broken tile to work for you in your home décor. A square of marble attached to a piece of wood or cork makes a cheeseboard for the kitchen. You can use different tiles to make some art in your kitchen by attaching them to the wall in a design you like--no need to grout. Just arrange them prettily for effect.

Broken tile can be used in arts and crafts to decorate your home. Put the pieces in a pillow case and smash them to the desired size. You can cement these pieces around mirrors, on trays or even tabletops. For the trays or table tops you'll need to use grout as well as tile adhesive to secure the pieces in place and give it a smoother surface. Using pieces this way is called a tile mosaic. If you have different colors and styles of tile leftover, you can end up with a striking piece.
These budget decorating tips are just a few of the great things you can do with supplies you already have.
