Cull - This is a term to describe lumber of such a low quality that it has no real value commercially.
Dry - This is wood that has been seasoned and that has a moisture content that is 19 percent or lower.
Economy - This is the lowest grade that is recognized in lumber. It permits serious lumber defects including large holes, knots, splits, unsound wood, wane and other similar defects.
Fingerjoint - This is a method that is used to join two lumber pieces end to end by sawing each of the piece's on their ends and projecting interlocking fingers to form a strong glue joint when the pieces are pushed together.
FOHC - This is an acronym that refers to being free of heart center, meaning that it is lumber that is specifically cut to exclude the log's heart center.
Glue Lam - This is a shortened form of glue laminated, which involves bonding together individual slices of veneer or lumber using an adhesive to create a single piece of lumber.
Hardwood - This is a general term that is used to refer to deciduous trees and their lumber. It does not actually have anything to do with the true hardness of the lumber.
Kiln Dried - This is a term that describes lumber that has been kiln seasoned until it reaches a pre-determined content of moisture.
