Here are the woodwork supplies that you need to keep on hand for the safe of good woodworking safety. All of these things should be available for your use within a wood shop or a work shop, so do not start any woodworking project unless you have all of these things on hand and within easy reach.
- You should have a completely stocked kit for first aid. Your first aid kit should always be accessible and available in your wood shop all the time. Even a small type of accident should absolutely be treated right away in order to prevent further infection or injury.
- You should have a fire extinguisher that has been tested and is working. Just like with all electrical devices, there is a fire risk associated with power tools that are electrical in nature. The risk is going to be increased significantly when it comes to power tools since you can accidently saw through a cord or cause other, similar damage.
- You should have all of the operator manuals for the power tools and hand tools in your shop. Different tools have unique requirements for safety precautions and use. Adhering to all of the recommendations by the tool's manufacturer is the best way to make sure that you are working in a safe environment at all times.
- You should have the proper cleaning supplies including a broom and a hand brush. Keeping your wood shop completely clean and free from excessive dust, sawdust and other refuge is going to promote an environment that is safe while preventing injuries that are completely unnecessary. An accumulation of wood scraps and sawdust can significantly increase the danger in your woodshop if a fire exists. Preventing fire is really easy when you consider how easily you can keep your workshop clean, so there is absolutely no excuse for you to have a messy workspace where the risk is greatly exaggerated.
- You should have a separate storage area designed for materials that are flammable. Containers that hold substances that are flammable like stains and oils need to be closed immediately after you use them and they need to be returned to the right storage area as well. When you use brushes or rags with these substances, then the same caution needs to be used with them. Keeping your flammable materials away from your power tools is going to significantly cut down on the risk of a fire in your workplace.
- You should have the right personal safety gear and attire. Having the right safety attire and safety gear is vitally important. You should have an adequate supply of hearing protection supplies, safety goggles, work gloves, respirators and dusk masks, and they should all be kept on hand consistently in your workshop for the best results.
